Throughout my time in the Army (20 years and counting), I've always felt more could be done to help us manage our money better.  Military service presents a great opportunity to save and invest, such as Long Separation Allowance (LSA) when we deploy on operations or exercises (as well as the inability to spend money when deployed), tour bonuses, low accommodation costs if you live in and a non-contributory pension.

It took me a number of years to fully understand what my options were when I wanted to save or invest - if I had known this earlier on in my career, I'd be in a much better position!  To aid other members of the Armed Forces, I've therefore captured what I do know and (hopefully) made it easy for you to access, digest and understand.

The majority of things you can do with your money, or allowances you can apply for aren't overly complicated - you just need to know where to start!  For things that are a little more complicated and risky, such as the stock market, there are a lot of financial professionals who can help, and some will offer a military discount.
